“The Diary of a Teenage Girl,” “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens,” “Son of Saul”
With Oscar season in full swing, Indie Outlook presents its annual list of the films it would nominate in the usual (and occasionaly unusual) awards categories. The nominees for Best Actor Under 18 prove that “Room”’s Jacob Tremblay wasn’t the only remarkable child performer onscreen this year. Marielle Heller’s “The Diary of a Teenage Girl,” which has been largely overlooked this season, received eight nominations, followed by “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens” with six. “Inside Out,” “Keeper” and “Son of Saul” each earned five nods, while “Anomalisa,” “Brooklyn,” “James White” and “Mad Max: Fury Road” garnered four apiece. Make sure to scroll to the end for Ten Special Mentions honoring specific films in categories largely dreamed up by yours truly.
