In honor of Oscar Sunday, let’s chat about…sports movies! What’s the Academy Awards if not a competition that causes fans to root for their prized “team,” and what’s the real prize in this scenario–getting the accolade or going the distance? I’d vote for the latter. Many of the pictures on my list ranking the Top Ten Sports Films either won or were nominated for Oscars, and a few were vastly superior to the films that actually brought home the gold during their respective years. I’m, of course, the last person on Earth who would expect to participate in a Chicago Sports podcast, but hosts Joseph George and Miguel Flores made me feel right at home on their terrific show, “Nothing But Net.” Check out our conversation below, although you must be advised that I do indeed spontaneously sing a line from “I Believe I Can Fly.” Thankfully, it’s only one line…
